Bamboo-inspired design creates super-fast charging rechargeable batteries
Inspired by natural bamboo, the fastest growing plant on earth, Dr Jun Mei and his colleagues at QUT have designed a new, fast-charging rechargeable battery.
Fast-charging rechargeable batteries are in high demand to address the current energy crisis in Australia.
Dr Mei uses the same working mechanism as water is transported within bamboo to achieve fast transport of tiny particles which enable battery charging (called ions).
“This work inspired us to explore potential solutions for addressing the current energy issues by learning from nature,” says Dr Mei.
“These new batteries will support as energy sources for our daily life and bring about a clean future.”
